Timeless quality at Nord Arin
”Quality is never an accident. It is always the result of intelligent effort”, John Ruskin (art critic).
We couldn’t agree more. Delivering timeless quality is the sum of solid knowledge, decades of experience, continuous learning, vision and creativity. It’s team effort and it’s sweat. It’s not easy to get, and it’s definitely not accidental. Here, at Nord Arin, we value quality more than anything else. Every time we design a new piece of furniture, we clearly envision what that product is supposed to look and feel like and, of course, what it should deliver from a quality point of view.
Nord Arin quality, step by step
A century of tradition and experience in woodworking and furniture making makes it easy for us and wood always inspires us in our creative process. However, working with this beautiful material is known to be a challenge – you have to understand and respect it in order to be able to control wood movement and variations in time and to put it in the best light, regardless of the design or product category. Good thing we love challenges!
Right from the first phase of the furniture production process – handpicking the oak logs, timber or veneer sheets – we do our job with quality in mind. Our specialists from Acquisitions have excellent knowledge of wood in general and of the Nord Arin product range, so that each log and timber stack is selected according to strict quality and aesthetic standards, perfectly matching the furniture collection for which it is intended. For example, for our Beams collection, we only use logs with a diameter of minimum 90 cm, with a dense, healthy ”heart”, that meet our collection’s design philosophy.
In addition, in order to deliver premium furniture at high-quality standards and also manifest our care towards the environment, all the wood that ends up on the Nord Arin pieces has sustainable origin, being sourced exclusively from verified providers. Our first option is, of course, Romanian wood, not only because we want to capitalize this national resource internally, but also because it is our desire to buy local, support the national economy and benefit from shorter supply chains.
Sawmill, Parts, Veneers
As wood goes through the next manufacturing phases, in the Sawmill, Parts, Prototype and Veneer sectors, quality remains a key performance indicator. Because the Nord Arin product portfolio develops and expands with various and complex furniture designs every year, our factory colleagues are constantly trained on quality aspects, including in partnership with university teachers.
Across all these production phases, besides meeting mandatory technical requirements, our woodworking specialists must have a keen eye for details and always keep in mind how the final product will look and function. Every production phase is supervised and inspected by our Quality Managers, so that action is taken early on in case of noncompliance.
The Machines sector
If by the time a piece of furniture reaches the CNC and woodworking machines, it is roughly shaped, here it receives all those special features that make the Nord Arin pieces unique, from a design and functional standpoint - milling, rounding, drilling and so on. Even though we use high-performance wood processing equipment, the skills and passion of our colleagues are key tools at this stage of the furniture manufacturing process.
Assembly, Grinding, Finishing
Later on, the product reaches the Assembly line, where all the parts are put in place and this way it is prepared for grinding, brushing and finishing. The final production phases are the ones in charge with creating those seamless wood surfaces and stunning finishing that our global customers highly appreciate.
At this stage, attention to details and a well-developed eye for aesthetics are mandatory, as these sectors probably involve the largest amount of craftsmanship and artistry. Brushing, applying color to furniture pieces through internally developed techniques and then finally getting into retouching and detailing are the defining processes for the final aesthetics of the Nord Arin products.
Then, after each piece of furniture is ready, it is carefully inspected and tested by our QA before being polished and packed under strict quality standards, depending on the country of destination. It is a long journey for each piece of wood – from forest into our customers’ homes around the world, but we are convinced that every step of the process done right, with no compromise on quality, is well worth it.
Nord Arin furniture is not only about how it makes your house look, but also about how it makes you feel. Decade after decade. And as a final thought for our readers, we want to leave you with another wise quote that we like, this time belonging to Aldo Gucci: ”Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten”.
